Tinubu Orders Acceleration of Ranching Reforms to Curb Farmer-Herder Conflicts
By Ahmed Isah
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of Livestock to begin immediate mobilisation for ranching reforms to reduce conflicts between herders and farmers across the country.
He issued the directive at the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja, saying the reforms were essential to restoring stability in communities affected by recurring clashes.
Tinubu tasked the Vice President, Chairman of the National Economic Council, with sensitising governors and stakeholders on the constitutional requirements guiding land administration.
He said the rehabilitation of grazing areas and designated villages would support organised ranching systems and promote economic opportunities within the livestock sector.
The President said implementing ranching reforms would help eliminate violent disputes in vulnerable areas and strengthen community security.
He added that the withdrawal of police from VIP protection would allow more personnel to be mobilised to rural conflict zones, complementing the livestock reform agenda.
