Jigawa State Govt Launches N2.9b Healthcare Upgrade Initiative

The Jigawa State government has embarked on a N2.9 billion project to upgrade 30 healthcare centres across the state, aiming to improve healthcare delivery and accessibility in rural areas.

Governor Umar Namadi made this known while launching the Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) Revitalisation project in Sakwaya community, Dutse Local Government Area, on Tuesday.

He said the project will upgrade PHCs in all 30 constituencies, providing a conducive environment for 24-hour service delivery.

The comprehensive optimisation project includes fencing facilities, installing solar-powered water and electricity schemes, and constructing staff quarters for frontline health workers.

The governor emphasized the aim to fortify these facilities, ensuring they are well-equipped to deliver continuous healthcare services despite their remote locations.

The projects are expected to be completed within two years, with the state government collaborating with development partners to rehabilitate healthcare facilities across all 287 wards.

To bolster service delivery, the government has recruited 900 primary healthcare workers and 200 secondary healthcare clinical staff, with plans to engage 1,000 ad hoc health workers.

Governor Namadi stressed that adequate health workers are essential for optimum service delivery, regardless of the facility’s condition.
