Yobe govt. cautions youths against involvement in planned nationwide protests
Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Yobe has advised Nigerians especially the youths to embrace dialogue over the planned protests.
Bego made the call at a meeting and symposium organised for the youths by the state government in Damaturu on Monday.
He said that the protest might turn violent and lead to loss of lives, destruction of property and displacement of people.
He said that it is better the youths embrace dialogue to resolve whatever issues agitating the minds of the people in interest of the nation.
Bego advised youths to channel their energy into positive actions, personal development and learn to use their votes to effect positive change in the polity instead of resorting to protests.
Malam Hashimu Hashimu, Special Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Youth Affairs, warned against the danger of joining faceless groups in the protests, citing the risk of hijack by hoodlums and individuals with ulterior motives.
The State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Ahmed Garba, acknowledged the citizens’ rights to protest, but advised groups to first obtain the command’s clearance to ensure adequate security and prevent infiltration by criminal elements.
The CP Represented by DSP. Dungus Abdulkarim, the, Public Relations Officer, tasked the youths of the state to remained focused and patriotic rather than engage in actions that might negatively affect their future.
