Biomedical Research Centre conducts AI training to builds local capacity in Yobe

The Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) Yobe State University has organised a training workshop for indigenous on Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of its summer school programme.

Dr Mahmud Bukar Maina, Founder and Director of the centre, said the workshop aimed to build local capacity and promote innovation in AI technology.

Maina stated that the centre had been organising summer schools for three years, with support from the Yobe State government, to develop skills and knowledge in various fields.

He explained that the AI workshop was designed to help participants from healthcare, administration, education, and other backgrounds understand how to utilise AI to advance their work.

He added that over 70 per cent of the participants were selected from the 17 local government areas of the state and 30 per cent came from other parts of the country.

Dr Ali Maina, Lead Resource Person, said the training would bridge the gap between developed and developing nations by advancing the knowledge of participants in retrieving and utilising information using cutting-edge technology.

A participant, Dr Zainab Rabi’u, expressed satisfaction with the training and thanked the organisers and facilitators.

She described the workshop as “very productive” and said participants had learned a lot about AI and Language Machine and Retrieval Argumentation Generation.
