Connected Development (CODE), a Non-Governmental Organisation, has trained Yobe Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) on data management, monitoring, evaluation to enhance social accountability.

Muazu Alhaji Modu, the State Support Team for ‘Project Trust’ made this known on Tuesday in Damaturu.

He said the training was part of CODE’s ‘Project Trust’ initiative, aimed at rebuilding trust between the government and citizens.

Modu said the training was crucial for sustainable development in Nigeria.

He emphasised the need for better communication and understanding between the government and citizens.

“Over the years, we have observed a disconnect between the government and the citizen.

“Citizens often do not understand what the government is doing, and the government may not adequately communicate its activities.

“Therefore, building trust through engagement is essential for effective governance,” Modu said.

He added that they brought 10 MDAs to including Ministry of Education, Health, Water Resources Primary health care Board (PHCB), State House of assembly among others.

“To build their capacity on data management monitoring and evaluation. So that they will be able to understand each other between the government and the citizens,” he explained.

Malam Abubakar Ibrahim, the Assistant Chief Planning Officer, PHCB, Yobe, described the training as timely.

He noted that the knowledge of monitoring and evaluation would enhance the board’s capacity to meet contemporary demands regarding data management for accountability.

Sheikh Mustapha Muhammed, a representative of the Yobe House of Assembly, emphasised the importance of oversight functions in ensuring that government projects and activities align with the needs of citizens.

He said the training would bring government and citizens together under a unified governance framework.
