Malam Usman Bura Gabai, Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disability, Yobe State Chapter, has called on the government to include persons with disabilities in all aspects of life, including sporting activities.

Gabai made the call on Tuesday in Damaturu during a football match organised by the association to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

He said the match was aimed at entertaining the public and showcasing the talents of persons with disabilities.

“We believe that there are many talented individuals among our members who can represent the state and the country in national and international competitions, if given the necessary support,” he said.

Gabai urged the government to remove all barriers that hinder the progress of persons with disabilities and empower them to reach their full potential.

Mr Chukwuemeka Hyginus, Director of Programmes at the Yobe State Humanitarian Actors, said the organisation supported the event to showcase the talents of persons with disabilities and to draw attention to their rights.

“We want to show the world that persons with disabilities are capable of great things and deserve to be treated with equality and dignity,” he said.
