NSCDC intercept truck with railway sleepers, nabs 3 suspects in Bauchi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bauchi State Command, has intercepted a truck loaded with vandalised railway sleepers concealed under bags of rice offals and arrested three suspects in the state.

The State Commandant of NSCDC, Commandant Oloyede Oyerinde stated this at a news conference Tuesday in Bauchi.

He said the operation took place on Friday, 20th June 2025 at about 3:00 a.m., followed by routine patrols by vigilant NSCDC operatives.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the railway sleepers were unlawfully removed from Gital Village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State and were being transported to Ilorin, Kwara State.

“The intercepted truck, with registration number FGE 663XB, was cleverly disguised to evade security checks,” he said.

He added that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime while the alleged mastermind, believed to be from Sokoto State, remains at large.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend him and ensure he faces the full weight of the law,” he said.

According to him, the Items recovered from the operation include 371 pieces of vandalised railway sleepers, 210 bags of rice offals used for concealment, and the articulated truck used for transportation.

Oyerinde commended his officers for their diligence and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding critical national infrastructure.
