The Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, has allocated newly constructed buildings and modern equipment to its recently established School of Health Sciences as part of its drive to expand academic programmes and improve quality of training.

The Rector of the institution, Dr Ibrahim Bello Bashir, disclosed this during an interactive session with a delegation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on a resource inspection visit on Friday.

Dr Bashir said the new facilities, which include state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms, are designed to support the smooth take-off of new programmes under the School of Health Sciences.

He listed the programmes to include Public Health Technology, Disease Control Technology, Pharmaceutical Technology, Environmental Management Technology, Health Information Management Technology, Environmental Science and Technology, and Environmental Health Technology.

According to him, efforts are underway to ensure that all other programmes across the institution are also provided with permanent structures to enhance teaching and learning.

In her remarks, leader of the NBTE team, Dr Fatima Kabir Umar, commended the Rector for his foresight and commitment to infrastructural development. She said the facilities put in place greatly aided the inspection exercise.

“We are impressed with what we have seen and acknowledge the warm hospitality extended to us by the Polytechnic management,” she said.

Also speaking, Esther Damisu, a Deputy Director at the NBTE, expressed appreciation for the improvements made within the last six months under Dr Bashir’s leadership.

She urged the Rector to sustain the momentum and continue to implement initiatives that would strengthen the institution’s academic standing.
