In a significant stride towards digital transformation and youth empowerment, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) today officially inaugurated an advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre in Damaturu, Yobe State.

This facility is one of several strategic projects handed over to the Yobe State Government on Monday, marking a major milestone in the Commission’s commitment to expanding access to digital tools, technical education, and inclusive innovation across the region.

The Damaturu ICT Centre was officially launched by the Honourable Minister of State for Regional Development, Alh. Uba Maigari Ahmadu.

This inauguration is part of a broader initiative by the NEDC, which has established three modern ICT centres across the three senatorial districts of Yobe State.

The other two strategically located centres are at the Federal University Gashua (Yobe North) and the Federal College of Education (Technical), Potiskum (Yobe Central).

Each of these cutting-edge centres is meticulously equipped to foster a robust learning and innovation environment.

The facilities boast 75 high-performance desktop computers, along with 50 comfortable computer tables and chairs. To ensure optimal conditions, each centre also includes 6 LG Jet Cool air conditioners. For presentations and collaborative work, there are 2 projectors (3,000 ANSI lumens) and 3 non-interactive whiteboards.

Furthermore, each centre features a dedicated smartphone repair lab with 25 complete kits, a laboratory workbench, and a colour printer and scanner. To guarantee uninterrupted power supply, a dedicated 3KVA Generator is also on site.

These ICT hubs are envisioned as more than just learning spaces; they are designed to be launchpads for skills development, job creation, and fostering innovation.

The impact of these interventions is already evident. At the Gashua Centre alone, over 900 youths have successfully undergone training, with numerous beneficiaries now thriving in their own ICT-based businesses and contributing to local employment.

This remarkable achievement stands as a powerful testament to the long-term positive impact of the Commission’s strategic investments.

The NEDC, through these state-of-the-art centres, is not merely investing in physical infrastructure but profoundly in the human capital of the North East.

By equipping the next generation with essential digital tools and skills, the Commission is laying the groundwork for them to thrive in an increasingly digital economy and contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development and prosperity of the entire region.
