
Army awards scholarship to Yobe orphan

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday in Damaturu, presented a cheque of N500,000 to Abubakar Abdullahi as the first installment of a four-year scholarship.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the cheque was presented by Maj.-Gen. MCE Ejike, Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force, North-East Operation HADIN KAI, on behalf of Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Oluyede explained that the scholarship was part of the Nigerian Army’s corporate social responsibility initiatives in Yobe.
He added that it was part of a Special Scholarship Scheme, introduced to assist the less privileged and orphans who could not afford their school fees.
Responding, Alhaji Bukar Adamu, Chairman, Damaturu Local Government Area, expressed gratitude for the gesture.
Represented by Malam Mustapha Fannami, the chairman, said that the local government area was very grateful to the Nigerian Army for the four-year scholarship given to the beneficiary.
The NAN reports that the beneficiary would be studying Islamic Studies at the Yobe State University, Damaturu.
He also thanked the Nigerian Army for the scholarship, and promised to do his best in his studies.
