
YSU Acting VC Calls for Synergy, Cooperation Among Staff Unions

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University (YSU), Prof. Bukar Jamri, has called for synergy, cooperation, integration, and transparency among staff unions, emphasizing that the interest of the university should be paramount.
Prof. Jamri made the call during a joint meeting with leaders of the various YSU branches of staff unions, according to a statement made available to newsmen by Uwani Zainab Mamuda, Director of Information and Protocol on Monday in Damaturu.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor urged union leaders to be punctual and to play a crucial role in improving staff attitude towards work.
He also advised them to engage in dialogue with the University Management and Council when addressing grievances, rather than resorting to confrontation.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Services, Prof. Mohammed Musa Lawan, stressed the importance of integration and collaboration among union leaders and their members.
He called on all staff to be committed to their responsibilities and contribute to the smooth running of the university system.
Responding on behalf of the unions, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Karage, acknowledged the importance of communication and assured the management that the unions see themselves as partners in progress.
He pledged to mobilize members to be diligent in their duties and urged the management to implement a system of rewards and sanctions to enhance productivity.
The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Comrade Ibrahim Liman, highlighted the need for the distribution of administrative manuals to all divisions, departments, and units, and for strict adherence to their provisions.
