Senator Shehu Buba, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and representative of Bauchi South under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has refuted claims suggesting that the Senate has approved the creation of new states in Nigeria.

Addressing journalists on Sunday in Bauchi, Buba clarified that the Senate is yet to deliberate on the reports submitted by the Senate Constitution Review Committee.

He said the committee, tasked with reviewing and amending the 1999 Constitution, held public hearings across all six geopolitical zones, including the North-East zonal session in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Buba explained that the committee’s role is to gather public input for constitutional amendments and that the Senate has not made any final decisions.

“The rumours about the creation of new states are baseless and misleading. The Senate has not resumed to consider the reports submitted from the zones,” Buba stated.

He urged Nigerians to disregard such claims and assured the public that any decisions on constitutional changes will follow due legislative procedures and be officially announced.

“No action will be taken until all submissions are debated and due process is followed,” he stressed.
