The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yobe State University (YSU) Branch, has clarified that the ongoing strike action embarked upon by its members has not been suspended.

This clarification was made on Sunday in a statement issued by the ASUU-YSU Chairperson, Comrade Ahmed Ibrahim Karage, who explained that although progress has been made, the strike remains in force pending the resolution of outstanding demands.

Karage disclosed that the N70,000 minimum wage consequential adjustment has been implemented by the government in July, marking a positive step towards addressing the union’s concerns.

He, however, noted that several critical issues remain unresolved. These include the implementation of academic staff promotions as approved by the University Council, the payment of promotion arrears from 2018 to 2025, and outstanding arrears related to the minimum wage salary consequential adjustment from 2019 to 2024.

Also included in the demands are the payment of the 35–25 per cent salary award for professors and other academic ranks covering 2023 to 2025, as well as arrears of the N70,000 minimum wage from January 2024 to June 2025.

“The general public is hereby informed that the strike action will be called off as soon as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed between ASUU-YSU and the Yobe State Government,” the statement read.

The union urged the state government to expedite actions toward resolving the lingering issues to enable the resumption of academic activities in the institution.
