No fewer than 900 female students of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi, have benefitted from a Soft Skills and Employability training aimed at preparing them for life after graduation.

The training, held at the Yuli and Gadau campuses of the university, was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) of SAZU in collaboration with Jobberman and Giwo Agro, with funding support from the MasterCard Foundation.

Participants were drawn from 300- and 400-level students across various departments, targeting those nearing graduation.

Vice Chancellor of SAZU, Professor Fatimah Tahir, represented by the Director of the EDC, Dr. Salisu Ibrahim Waziri, underscored the importance of the program.

“It is not enough for you to graduate without having what we call extra value attached to it. Giving you skills such as how to communicate effectively in public is key to your success in life,” she said.

Professor Tahir urged the participants to maximize the “golden opportunity” provided by Jobberman and Giwo Agro, stressing that the knowledge gained would have a generational impact. “Educating a woman is educating the society,” she added.

The training covered public speaking techniques, CV and grant proposal writing, business proposal development, and ICT skills, among others.

In his remarks, Malam Ibrahim Aminu Tahir, Lead Consultant at Giwo Agro, said the training would equip participants with the necessary know-how to secure jobs and thrive in the workplace. He reaffirmed Giwo Agro’s commitment to partnering with SAZU to promote academic excellence.

According to the organizers, 600 participants were drawn from Gadau campus and 300 from Yuli campus, with a similar program planned for Misau campus soon.
