The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed readiness to deepen collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to strengthen voter education, mobilisation and citizens’ participation in elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stated this on Wednesday in Abuja when he received the NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, on a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters.

Yakubu congratulated Issa-Onilu on his appointment and commended NOA’s grassroots presence and communication initiatives, describing them as vital to improving public awareness of electoral processes.

He lauded NOA’s innovations such as the “NOA Content Factory”, NOA TV, NOA Radio, The Explainer newsletter, national virtual hackathons, and AI-powered data management systems, noting that they align with INEC’s newly created Artificial Intelligence Division under its ICT Department.

The INEC chairman urged NOA to intensify collaboration with political parties, civil society organisations and the media to boost voter turnout, especially among youths, women and Persons with Disability (PwDs).

According to him, NOA’s inclusion in the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and its expected role in the revamped National Inter-Agency Committee on Voter Education and Publicity (NICVEP) will further enhance coordinated mobilisation efforts.

Yakubu said the renewed partnership comes at a critical time as INEC prepares for the Anambra State Governorship Election on Nov. 8, 2025, and the 2027 General Election.

He announced that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will commence on Aug. 18 with online pre-registration, followed by in-person registration from Aug. 25.

Yakubu assured the NOA of INEC’s commitment to working closely with the agency to ensure credible and inclusive electoral processes.
