By Ahmed Ahmed
The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), Northeast Zonal Centre, has entered into a partnership with the Taraba State Government to tackle the rising menace of illicit arms proliferation in the region.
During a courtesy visit to Governor Agbu Kefas on Friday, the Zonal Director, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Adamu (Rtd), emphasized that collaboration with state governments is critical in addressing the dangers posed by small arms and light weapons (SALW).
He noted that the Centre’s mandate includes sensitization, intelligence sharing, and mopping up illegal weapons for destruction.
Adamu stressed that the federal government has directed the Centre to prosecute offenders involved in the proliferation or fabrication of illicit arms. He called for wider stakeholder support, particularly from security agencies and communities, to ensure peaceful coexistence and socio-economic stability.
Governor Kefas, represented by Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, assured the state’s full cooperation with NCCSALW in strengthening peace and security.
The Zonal Director also met with the Commander, 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Kinsley Uwa, the State Commissioner of Police, and the DSS, all of whom pledged collaboration through intelligence sharing, sensitization, and community engagement.
