The Civil Society–Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN), Yobe Chapter, has elected new executive members to guide its activities for the next three years.

Mohammed Ali emerged as State Coordinator during the election held at the Taimako Community Development Initiative office on Gujba Road in Damaturu. Other elected officials include Kudirat Kashim as Secretary, Mohammed Annur Yaya for Partnership and Coordination, Ishaku Adamu for Capacity Building, and Liatu Habila Jauro for Resource Mobilisation.

Also elected were Hadiza Manga as Chairperson, Policy and Research; Mohammad Muktar Gambo as Advocacy Lead; and Comrade Tanimu Salifu as Ex-Officio.

In his acceptance speech, Ali thanked members for the trust vested in him. He pledged to foster inclusiveness and deepen collaboration with stakeholders to advance nutrition interventions across the state. He assured the coalition of his determination to strengthen coordination and deliver on its mandate.

The outgoing coordinator, Salifu, appreciated members for their support throughout his eight-year tenure. He cited strengthened engagement with nutrition stakeholders across the 17 LGAs, advocacy initiatives and outreach programmes among key achievements despite funding constraints.

He noted that the approval and release of a nutrition counter-fund to UNICEF by the state government was a milestone for the coalition. He added that efforts to extend maternity leave for working mothers from three to six months had recorded progress and were before the Yobe State House of Assembly.

Sheriff Kura, who delivered the vote of thanks, commended participants for ensuring a peaceful and transparent election. He urged the new leadership to promote unity and build on the achievements of the previous executives.

Chindo Adam Sodangi, Chairman, CS-SUNN Steering Committee, praised the maturity displayed during the process and expressed confidence in the capacity of the newly elected officials to enhance nutrition programming in the state.

A key highlight of the event was the administration of the oath of office by the national CS-SUNN team led by Ambrose Evhoesor and Kunle Ishola, with the exercise performed on their behalf by Alhaji Baba Shehu.

Government officials from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning observed the election, which marked a renewed commitment toward improving nutrition outcomes across Yobe State.
