The Bauchi State Government has organized a two-day capacity-building workshop for 50 messengers, watchmen, cleaners and gardeners, aimed at strengthening integrity, professionalism and effective service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The training workshop, organized by the Office of the Head of Civil Service, is scheduled for Tuesday 16th to Wednesday 17th December, 2025, at the Conference Room of the General Administration Department, Abubakar Umar Secretariat Complex, Bauchi.

Declaring the workshop open, the Head of Service of Bauchi State, Mr. Mohammed Sani Umar, emphasized the critical role played by support staff in the smooth functioning of government operations. He urged participants to uphold honesty, sincerity and confidentiality in the discharge of their duties.

He stressed the need to respect the oath of secrecy at all times.

According to the HoS, lack of trustworthiness among messengers, security personnel and cleaners could seriously undermine government services.

He described their responsibilities as fundamental to effective service delivery and called on them to take their duties seriously, noting that every cadre in the civil service contributes to overall performance and public trust.

Mr. Umar further advised participants to listen attentively throughout the training in order to improve their skills, work ethics and understanding of civil service rules.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, General Administration, Mr. Mahmood Dawud Umar, cautioned participants against misconduct and indiscipline.

He urged them to be responsible, diligent and committed to their assigned duties, reminding them that professionalism remains the hallmark of a productive civil service.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Bauchi State Chapter, Mr. Dauda Shuaibu, commended the state government and the Head of Civil Service for initiating the training.

He noted that the programme would significantly contribute to improving efficiency and discipline within the state civil service.

Earlier, the Director of Training in the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Malam Mohammed Bello Ahmed, explained that the workshop is the first of its kind for the cadre.

He said the initiative aligns with the policy of the Bauchi State Government to train all categories of civil servants, with the approval of Governor Bala Mohammed, to enhance service delivery.

Participants were drawn from various MDAs, while experienced facilitators were engaged to equip them with relevant knowledge and skills needed for effective service in the Bauchi State Civil Service.
