NEDC to Construct Bridge, 2.5km Road in Potiskum

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) is to construct a 2.5-kilometre road with a bridge and another bridge in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe.

The NEDC North-East Coordinator, Mr Ali Abbas, disclosed this during the handover of sites for the projects on behalf of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the commission.

Abbas said the road and bridge project would link Kara Community with Masaka and Mazaga, while the second bridge would be constructed in Tenderia Community.

He said the projects were aimed at improving connectivity, enhancing socio-economic activities and accelerating development in the benefiting communities.

Abbas said the commission prioritised local content by engaging residents, including engineers and artisans, to build local capacity and reduce unemployment.

He said youth employment and community participation remained key objectives of the commission’s interventions.

The contractor, Mr Gao Kum of EEC Company, said the firm had over 20 years’ experience operating in Nigeria.

Kum said the projects would be completed within 10 months and executed in line with required quality standards.

A resident, Malam Ibrahim Goni, commended the NEDC for the intervention, saying the projects would positively transform the area.

Goni said the road and bridges would ease movement, boost trade and improve access to farms, markets and essential services in the communities.
