Engineers have validated compliance with national standards on key Federal and state projects in Yobe, reinforcing confidence in infrastructure delivery in the state.

A joint inspection team from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Damaturu Branch, and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) conducted the assessment in Damaturu on Tuesday.

The team inspected the expansion of the Potiskum–Maiduguri expressway, new academic facilities at the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, and the phased upgrade of the August 27 Stadium.

Briefing journalists, the Chairman of NSE Damaturu Branch, Engr. Mustapha Abdullahi, said the exercise was part of routine professional oversight to ensure quality and adherence to engineering standards.

Abdullahi explained that the visit was collaborative and focused on providing technical guidance rather than investigating contractors or government agencies.

“Our purpose is to share ideas and ensure best practices, not to investigate anyone,” he said.

He said the inspection also served as on-site training for young engineers, while senior professionals offered recommendations to strengthen project execution.

According to him, the expansion of the road from 530 Fika Road to the Stadium roundabout was a strategic intervention that would improve traffic flow and regional connectivity.

At the August 27 Stadium, Abdullahi said the ongoing modernisation would enhance sporting infrastructure and contribute to youth development and social stability.

The Area Manager of Triacta Nigeria, Mr. Fadi Abi Aad, said the engagement with NSE and COREN had improved quality assurance on the Potiskum–Maiduguri road project.

Aad disclosed that 1.5 kilometres of the 6.6-kilometre project had been completed, adding that the company was working to meet the December deadline.

At the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, the engineers inspected a one-storey classroom block and a Health Science Technology complex funded by the Federal Government.

The team said the projects would strengthen learning facilities and align educational infrastructure with national manpower development goals.
