PF4C: A critical investment in child rights, wellbeing – Expert

Dr Benjamin Sunday, Department of Economics and Development Studies, Federal University Kashere, Gombe state says public financing for Children is a critical investment in Child rights and wellbeing for a brighter future.
Sunday stated this at the media dialogue on public financing for children organised by the Adamawa government in collaboration with UNICEF Bauchi field office in Yola.
He tasked journalists to advocate for the public financing for the interest of the children on the need to be given priority it deserves.
“Especially when it comes to interactions with policy makers and the candidates ahead for the 2027 general election circle and beyond for them to include them in their blue print.
These will help to improve the issues of children’s in the healthcare, education, protection, nutrition and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services.
“Child public Finance is not only a children’s issue but a general one because poor investment in children affects education health and future productivity among others”, he said.
In his presentation, Mr Frama Daniel, another resource person also explained that such an investment would impact positively to secure the future of the children especially vulnerable children.
He also encouraged participants to be the voice of the people especially the children from planning, budget, release, implementation and completions of projects for positive impact.
Dr Nuzhat Rafique, the UNICEF’s Chief Bauchi Field Office appreciated the contribution of the media in behavioral change and promotion of children issues.
The Chief who was represented by Mr Abdulrahaman Ado, UNICEF Education specialist called on the participants to understand the objective of the engagement.
“To promote adequate, equitable and accountable public financing for children during and beyond the 2027 general election”, he said.
According to him, usually its now time for journalists to interact with the candidates vying for various political offices and it’s important to raise issues about children to reflect in their campaign activities.
