Coalition Defends Buba, Calls for Support for Zulum Administration

The Coalition of Clubs and Associations in Borno has defended Mr Saina Buba, Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Poverty Alleviation, over a controversial comment attributed to him, urging the public to accept his apology and support the administration of Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum.
The Secretary of the coalition, Mr Garba Dolars, made the call on Friday at a press conference in Maiduguri.
Dolars said the coalition comprised more than 300 associations, describing its members as shop owners and other beneficiaries of government support programmes facilitated through the commissioner.
He said the coalition had mobilised its members to remain supportive of the Zulum administration, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the party’s governorship candidate, Engr. Mustapha Gubio, and his running mate.
According to him, the commissioner is human and could make mistakes, stressing that Buba had already acknowledged the controversy generated by his comment and tendered an apology.
“We apologise on behalf of the commissioner. He is human and bound to make mistakes, but he has already tendered his apology.
“We stand with the governor, the commissioner, the APC, Engr. Mustapha Gubio and his deputy. We remain loyal and committed to this government,” Dolars said.
He appealed to the public to disregard comments allegedly aimed at tarnishing the image of the Zulum administration, saying the coalition recognised the government’s efforts in supporting youths and other vulnerable groups.
Buba had earlier clarified his position following public criticism over a viral video of remarks he made during an empowerment programme organised by the City Boy Movement in Maiduguri.
The commissioner said his comment did not represent the ideals of the APC or the Zulum administration.
He also reaffirmed that the administration respected the rights of citizens and remained committed to supporting youths and other segments of society.
Buba expressed regret over the concerns generated by the remarks and appealed for understanding, saying the controversy should not be used to undermine the government’s programmes and achievements.
