Police Arrest 2 suspects for allegedly ATM fraud in Adamawa

Adamawa Police Command says it arrested two suspected ATM fraudsters, for allegedly ATM card swap fraud, recovered 23 ATM cards, POS machine and ₦400,000.
Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, Command spoke person disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Yola.
He said, the suspects were arrested by the operatives of the command attached to State intelligent Department.
“The suspects were identified as Yusuf Maika, 50 years, and Abubakar Mustapha, 52 years, both residents of Jos, Plateau State.
“They were arrested for allegedly defrauding one Yunusa Usman of the sum of ₦400,000 at an Access Bank ATM cubicle in the State.
“The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim and immediate response from the Bank’s staff on Monday, 7th September, 2026.”, he said.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects specialize in targeting ATM users experiencing network or transaction difficulties.
“They offer unsolicited assistance to such victims, observe their PINs, and subsequently swap their ATM cards with similar cards without their knowledge.
“The suspects would then use a mobile POS machine to withdraw or transfer funds from the victims’ accounts”, he said.
Nguroje said during interrogation, the suspects disclosed that they came to Adamawa State from Jos, Plateau State last week for the purpose of perpetrating the crime.
He said the suspects would remain in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
He urges members of the public to exercise caution when using ATM facilities, avoid disclosing their PINs to anyone, and immediately report any suspicious individual offering unsolicited assistance at ATM points to the police or bank officials.
“The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc, commended the operatives for their vigilance and assured members of the public that the Command will continue to take decisive action against fraudsters and other criminals targeting residents of the State.
