Ngizim farmers, businessmen pledge support for Wali’s governorship bid
A delegation of Ngizim indigenous farmers and businessmen from Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe has pledged support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The delegation, led by the APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Yobe South, Alhaji Mohammed Inusa, made the pledge when it visited Wali at his residence in Damaturu.
Inusa said the visit was aimed at strengthening unity, reconciliation and political engagement between the Ngizim community and the government.
He described the Ngizim people as hardworking farmers, businessmen and entrepreneurs who had consistently supported the progressive political movement.
He, however, said misunderstandings in recent times had created a gap between the community and the government.
“This visit is a bridge of peace and unity. We have come to say that Ngizim is APC and APC is Ngizim.
“We want to put the past behind us and work together for the greatness of Yobe State,” Inusa said.
He appealed for greater inclusion of the Ngizim people in the political affairs of the state, particularly in future elections and appointments.
“We are not asking the government to remove anyone from his seat. All we are saying is that we should be remembered in the future.
“Our sons and daughters should be considered in future elections and appointments. We have capable hands who can contribute meaningfully to the development of Yobe,” he said.
Inusa attributed the community’s support for Wali’s governorship bid to what he described as his open-door policy, humility, willingness to listen and commitment to unity and inclusiveness.
He also pledged the delegation’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sen. Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai and other APC candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats in the 2027 elections.
Responding, Wali thanked the delegation for the visit and commended the Ngizim community for its willingness to pursue dialogue and reconciliation.
He described the people of Potiskum as hardworking, peaceful and enterprising, noting their contributions to agriculture, commerce and economic activities in Yobe South.
“Potiskum is the commercial heartbeat of Yobe. Without Ngizim farmers and businessmen, Yobe’s economy cannot beat.
“You are builders, creators of wealth, and you are our pride,” Wali said.
Wali assured the delegation that its concerns had been heard and would receive due attention.
He said governance should be guided by inclusion, justice and equal opportunities for all citizens, irrespective of their backgrounds.
According to him, his vision is to build a united Yobe where no community feels marginalised and every group has the opportunity to contribute to the state’s development.
“I want to be a governor for all—for everyone who calls Yobe home. Our diversity is our strength,” he said.
Wali urged the delegation to intensify grassroots mobilisation and encourage eligible voters to register, collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the 2027 general elections.
He also called on them to support Tinubu, Bomai and other APC candidates at the polls.
The delegation included Alhaji Mamman Fara Fara, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Garin Daye, Alhaji Babale Jaji, Alhaji Alhassan Makwai, Alhaji Mohammed Idriss Inchinai, Alhaji Musa Alaska, Alhaji Auduwa, Alhaji Yusuf Mai Shinkafa, Alhaji Muhammad Yonusa, Alhaji Hassan Muhammad Garin Daye and Alhaji Muhammad Haruna, among others.
The meeting ended with prayers and handshakes, with both sides expressing commitment to continued dialogue, unity and political engagement in the state.
