The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has charged corps members to identify the needs of their host communities and embark on meaningful Community Development Service (CDS) projects to improve residents’ living conditions.
Malam Nasir Bello, NYSC Coordinator in Borno gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch C Stream I orientation course, attended by 1,056 corps members on Tuesday in Maiduguri
He urged the corps members to demonstrate commitment to community development by initiating projects that would address pressing challenges and contribute to the socio-economic development of their host communities.
The coordinator stressed the importance of identifying local needs before embarking on CDS projects to ensure that the initiatives delivered lasting benefits to the people.
He encouraged the corps members to see their service year as an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to national development, beyond their primary assignments.
Bello also urged them to maintain discipline, uphold the core values of the NYSC scheme and cultivate positive relationships with members of their host communities.
He noted that community development remained an important component of the NYSC programme, providing corps members with opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills to address societal challenges.
The coordinator called on traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to support corps members in identifying priority needs and implementing projects that would improve the welfare of residents.
He expressed confidence that corps members who embraced the spirit of service and innovation would leave positive legacies in their host communities.
Bello urged them to remain dedicated, responsible and security-conscious throughout their service year, while contributing to peaceful coexistence and sustainable development in Borno.
