Damaturu, April 28, 2024 (NAN)The Yobe Ministry of Health has adviced the people of the state on the recent increase in environmental temperature.

Dr Mohammed Gana, Commissioner for health, advised residents to take precautions against the temperatures, which he said could reach 45 degrees Celsius.

”The extreme heat condition can exacerbate health problems.

“Normal body temperature is 37 degrees Celsius. Excessive heat can cause or worsen existing health conditions,” he said.

To stay safe during the hot weather, Gana offered several practical tips to include sleeping in well-ventilated areas, avoid overcrowded and stuffy environments.

He advised residents to stay hydrated, drink plenty of water, a minimum of two to three liters per day to avoid dehydration.

He also said resident should limit exposure to direct sunlight. If possible, stay indoors during the hottest part of the day, typically midday.

“Schedule outdoor activities for cooler hours. Early mornings or evenings are ideal for strenuous activities.

“Choose light-colored clothing. Opt for loose-fitting, breathable fabrics in white or light colors, as they reflect heat better than dark clothing.

“Seek medical attention immediately. Report any unusual symptoms, such as dizziness, excessive thirst, or fatigue, to a nearby health facility,” he advised.

Gana highlighted the recent improvements made to Yobe’s healthcare system under Governor Mai Mala Buni’s leadership.

He said residents now had access to a significantly strengthened healthcare network.

“There is a health facility within a five kilometer radius of most communities, and these facilities are well-equipped with essential supplies and medications,” he added. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
