Yobe State Police Command has arrested Mallam Auwalu Haruna, a self-proclaimed Marabou, for allegedly abducting and impregnating a 20-year-old woman.

The victim was found in the suspect’s custody in Kano State after a thorough search.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the victim confessed to being coerced into drinking a medicinal concoction that rendered her unconscious and vulnerable to the perpetrator’s actions.

Medical examination revealed that she was two months pregnant.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, has urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to be vigilant about the relationships their wards have with others, as perpetrators are often close relatives, neighbors, or acquaintances.

He called on stakeholders to join forces in combating gender-based violence (GBV), which has far-reaching consequences for the well-being and development of the girl child and society at large.

The command has recorded 34 cases of GBV and related crimes between January and June 2024, with 85% currently undergoing trial and a few convictions secured.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s commitment to combating GBV and related crimes, assuring that perpetrators will face the full weight of the law.
