Labour accepts N70,000 minimum wage offer
In a significant development, the organized labour has accepted the N70,000 minimum wage offer made by the Federal Government.
This decision was announced by Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), after a crucial meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Ajaero was flanked by Comrade Festus Usifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other representatives of Nigerian workers.
According to Ajaero, the unions accepted the offer due to the additional incentives attached, particularly the President’s promise to review the minimum wage every three years.
This departure from previous practices was a significant factor in their decision.
Initially, the labour leaders had demanded a minimum wage of no less than N250,000.
However, the agreed amount, coupled with the promise of periodic reviews, persuaded the unions to accept the N70,000 offer.
This development marks a significant milestone in the negotiations between the Federal Government and the organized labour.
