A swiss-based non-profit organisation, NEAR Foundation, has donated a borehole to the Federal University, Gashua (FUGA).
Inaugurating the facility in Gashua on Friday, FUGA Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maimuna Waziri, thanked the foundation for supporting the institution.
She noted that the borehole with full compliment of tanks, taps and other equipment would serve as an additional source of clean water to the university community.
“Water is essential to every part of our daily lives, and this borehole will greatly enhance the experiences of our students, staff, and visitors on campus.
“ We are deeply appreciative of the NEAR Foundation’s commitment to supporting education and improving lives in our community,” Waziri said.
The vice chancellor also appealed to the foundation for more supports in medical outreach programme, construction of additional classrooms and the establishment of staff school.
She made a special request for collaboration between the university and the foundation in addressing the high prevalence rate of kidney disease bedevilling residents of Gashua and its environs.
In his remarks, Mr Abdulmalik Bulakos, the project coordinator, said the project was part of the foundation’s initiative to support educational institutions and community development.
“ Our goal is to empower communities with the resources they need to thrive.
“ Access to clean water is foundational, and we are proud to partner with Federal University Gashua in bringing this essential service to their doorstep,” he said.
Our correspondent reports that the charity project was dedicated in memory of late Turkish cleric and scholar, Muhammed Fethullah-Gulen.
