Igbo Community Honours Gov Buni
The Igbo Community in Yobe has honoured Gov Mai Mala Buni with an award of excellence for his inclusive leadership style, compassion, and support to the community.
The honour was bestowed during the annual New Year Yam Festival, an event that celebrates the Igbo culture and traditions Monday in Damaturu.
Mr Maazi Ifedo, the President General of the Igbo Community Association in Damaturu, , commended the governor for his efforts in creating a conducive environment for all ethnic groups in the state.
“We are grateful to the Yobe State government led by Hon Mai Mala Buni, the executive governor who through his inclusive style of leadership, simplicity, kindheartedness and compassion.
“He ccommodated us in this land and made it conducive for us to do our legitimate business and interchange with the culture of the host community and other ethnic groups and non-indigenes living around us,” he said.
Ifedo requested for the government to consider ibgos in shop allocation in newly constructed markets and financial assistance for the completion of their community hall.
Receiving the award on behalf of the governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture reiterated the state government’s commitment to inclusiveness and sense of belonging.
“Gov Buni is a leader who believes in inclusivity in carrying everybody alone, in ensuring that we have a state where everybody can contribute to the development of the state,” Bego said.
