The Alumni Association of Bauchi State College of Agriculture has proposed a name change for the institution to Goodluck Jonathan College of Agriculture and General Studies, Bauchi State.
Mr Muhammad Sani Muazu, President of the Alumni Association made the call at a news conference on Saturday in Bauchi
He said the proposal was made in recognition of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s contributions to education and democracy in Nigeria.
According to Sani Muazu, the proposed name change is not merely symbolic, but carries significant practical implications.
“With this new status, the college would be eligible to benefit from interventions by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), unlocking new opportunities for funding, research, and infrastructure development,” he said.
Muazu said the association believes that changing the nomenclature would provide the opportunity to accommodate more courses,
“Such as Entrepreneurship Development, Sciences related courses, and other disciplines that would enhance the institution’s relevance and competitiveness.
“The proposal comes as the institution is set to mount more Higher National Diploma (HND) courses, expanding its academic offerings and enhancing its reputation,” The president said.
The Alumni Association has reaffirmed its commitment to the advancement of the institution and urges the state government to consider the proposed name change as a strategic move to secure the future of the college.
