A group of young leaders, having undergone intensive training in leadership, social accountability, and management, graduated on Monday in Damaturu, Yobe State.

The fellows, who participated in the Youth Local Government Accountability Fellowship, were equipped to address challenges facing their communities.

Alhaji Modu Muazu, the Chief Executive Officer of Spotlight for Transparency and Accountability Initiative, stated that the 9-month program was designed to empower young people to become catalysts for positive change.

“Today, we are not only celebrating the graduation of these talented individuals but also witnessing the birth of a new generation of leaders who are committed to transforming their communities,” he said.

One of the graduating fellows, Zainab Musa Shuaibu, shared her experiences: “I witnessed the heartbreaking reality of young girls hawking day and night in Auto School Local Government.

“These girls are exposed to dangers and burdened with responsibilities beyond their years. Through this fellowship, I’ve gained the knowledge and skills to advocate for their rights and protect them from harm.”

She urged the government to ban child hawking, especially at night, and called on parents to prioritize their children’s education.

Another fellow, Hassan Muhammed Dagona, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the program.

He encouraged Yobe youths to invest in their personal and professional development to contribute to the state’s growth.

The graduation ceremony was part of a larger youth idea summit themed “Reimagining Youth Civic Participation in Local Governance and Application of Artificial Intelligence Technology in Different Aspects of Human Endeavor.”

The summit aimed to inspire and empower young people to actively engage in governance and utilize technology for societal advancement.
