12 Burnt to Death in Yobe Road Crash
By Baba Dan’Iya
Twelve persons, including a child, were burnt to death in a road crash on Tuesday night along the Baimari-Geidam road in Yobe State.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Corps Commander Livinus Yilzoom, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Damaturu.
Yilzoom said the crash occurred at about 10:00 p.m. at Km 20, Chelluri village along the Baimari-Geidam road.
He explained that a stationary Howo truck with registration number MAG831ZR, belonging to DAN NENE Construction Company, was hit by a Sharan minibus with registration number BAU124YF.
The impact of the collision led to a fire that engulfed the minibus, burning all 12 occupants beyond recognition.
The sector commander attributed the crash to road obstruction by the stationary truck and excessive speed by the minibus driver.
He warned motorists to avoid night travels, especially during the harmattan season, due to poor visibility.
Yilzoom urged motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations to prevent future accidents.
He extended the condolences of the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, to the bereaved families.
