World Bank Workshop Equips Yobe Media for Modern Communication

The Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), a World Bank initiative, has commenced a five-day workshop to equip Yobe 115 media practitioners in Kano on Monday.

The participants include information officers, social media influencers, content creators among others.

Alhaji Musa Jidawa, the State Project Coordinator for MCRP emphasised the need to adapt to the changing world, leveraging on opportunities in media and information dissemination.

“The world is changing fast, and we cannot wait. We have to be part of it,” he stated.

Jidawa urged participants to seize the opportunities presented by the training, stressing the need to galvanize resources and potential for the state’s advancement after the impact of the insurgency.

While he expressed confidence on the resource persons to deliver quality training, Jidawa called on participants to pay attention for maximum impact on their personal development and their communities.

Dr. Olusoji Adeniyi, the Lead Facilitator, described the workshop as a “paradigm shift” in information and media management.

He highlighted the importance of adapting to the evolving media landscape and understanding how to effectively communicate development messages.

Adeniyi noted that communication strategies have drastically changed, requiring media professionals to acquire new skills to ensure their reports carry communication development messages rather than just breaking news.

He emphasised that a development could only be sustained when people in the media understand how to report stories around that development.

Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, commended the MCRP for organising the workshop and bringing seasoned consultants to facilitate.

He acknowledged the significance of training 115 individuals had aligned it with Governor Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to providing opportunities for media operators and content creators to excel.

In their separate remarks, the General managers of Yobe State Television (YTV), Yobe Broadcasting Corporation (YBC), National Television Authority (NTA) and Sunshine FM Potiskum expressed their gratitude to the MCRP and the Yobe government for sponsoring the training programme.

The General managers also urged the participants to take the training seriously and pay close attention to all the presentations.

They stressed that the training was a valuable opportunity for professional growth and urged the participants to actively engage in the sessions, ask questions, and share their experiences.
