The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State Chapter, has taken a significant step towards enhancing the capacity of female journalists in the state.

The Bauchi State Chairperson NAWOJ, Mrs Rashida Yusuf while declaring the training open in Jos, Plateau State on Tuesday, said 20 participants attended the training.

According to her, the two-day training session was conducted, focusing on gender-sensitive reporting, leadership skills, and career growth.

“The initiative is part of NAWOJ’s efforts to promote excellence in journalism and empower women in the profession.

“The training also aimed to equip participants with the skills to report on gender issues with empathy and emerging reporting techniques,” she said.

She added that the session is part of the Industrial Training Funds’ efforts to enhance productivity among members.

Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo, NUJ Chairman, Plateau State Council, encouraged female journalists to become agents of change in their communities.

She emphasized the importance of taking up leadership roles, partnering with other media organizations, and developing content on underreported issues.

The Facilitator Mrs. Lilian Idiaghe highlighted the crucial role of self-awareness, mentorship, training, and development in enhancing the careers of female journalists.

She noted that biases in storytelling can perpetuate harmful stereotypes and reinforce existing imbalances.
