The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Yobe for the 2027 election, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, has commenced consultations with traditional rulers across the state, seeking their support, prayers and guidance ahead of the poll.

Wali began the consultation on Wednesday with visits to the Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu El-Kanemi, Emir of Ngazargamu, Alhaji Mustapha Ibn Mahmud, and the Emir of Jajere, Alhaji Hamza Mashio.

At the palace of the Emir of Damaturu, Wali said the visit was to formally inform the monarch of his emergence as the APC governorship candidate and seek his fatherly blessing and prayers.

He said his emergence was achieved with the support of Gov. Mai Mala Buni, Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam, and other stakeholders of the party.

Wali appealed for prayers for himself and other contestants, stressing the importance of the guidance and support of traditional institutions in ensuring a peaceful political process.

He expressed confidence that, if elected, the people of Yobe would be proud of their choice, assuring that he would dedicate himself to serving the people and advancing the development of the state.

Responding, the Emir of Damaturu assured Wali and the delegation of his prayers.

The monarch described Wali as a man of integrity and his word, saying his emergence as the APC candidate was a wise choice.

He prayed for guidance, success and a peaceful political process, extending his prayers to other contestants and the people of the state.

At the Emir of Ngazargamu’s palace, Wali said his administration, if elected, would focus on continuity, consolidation and innovation.

He pledged to build on the achievements and legacy of Gov. Mai Mala Buni and sustain ongoing development programmes in the state.

“We know that you are hardworking,” Wali told the Emir, while assuring him of his respect for traditional institutions and commitment to working closely with them for the progress and stability of Yobe.

Earlier, APC State Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka, said the visit was part of the party’s engagement with traditional institutions and other stakeholders across the state.

Gadaka said the APC recognised the important role traditional rulers played in maintaining peace, unity and stability, adding that the party would continue to seek their guidance, support and prayers ahead of the 2027 election.

He expressed confidence in Wali’s capacity to provide responsible leadership and consolidate the achievements recorded under the Buni administration.

The Emir of Ngazargamu, in his response, assured the candidate and the delegation of his support and prayers.

The monarch said the traditional institution would support what Gov. Buni had requested, while praying for success in Wali’s political journey.

He also prayed for peace, unity and a successful political process in Yobe State.

The candidate’s visit to the Emir of Jajere formed part of the first phase of his consultation with traditional rulers across the state.

The consultations are expected to continue with other traditional institutions and critical stakeholders as the APC prepares for the 2027 governorship election
