Fire outbreak claims four family members in Yobe community
Four members of the same family have died in a fire outbreak at Rugar Audu Badali Fulani Community in Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe.
The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, when fire engulfed the family’s residence, destroying the structure and household belongings.
The victims were identified as Bilkisu, wife of Mallam Bukar, and their three children, Zainab, Hafsat and Salamatu.
The victims were buried according to Islamic rites.
Following the incident, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) mobilised a joint assessment and condolence team to the community in collaboration with the Karasuwa Local Government Authority and community stakeholders.
The team assessed the extent of the damage and documented the destruction of residential structures and household property.
It also engaged the bereaved family and other affected residents to assess their immediate humanitarian and psychosocial needs.
The agency and other stakeholders expressed condolences to Mallam Bukar and the surviving members of the family over the loss.
The assessment identified temporary shelter, emergency relief materials and psychosocial support as some of the immediate needs of the affected survivors.
Yobe SEMA said it would coordinate with relevant stakeholders to facilitate timely humanitarian intervention and mobilise resources to alleviate the suffering of the affected residents.
The agency also called for collective efforts by communities and relevant stakeholders to strengthen fire prevention and safety measures to avert similar tragedies in the state.
