The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YSIEC) has declared the winners of Saturday’s local government council elections conducted across the 17 local government areas of the state.
The Executive Chairman of the commission, Dr Ibrahim Muhammad Yabani, announced the results on Sunday in Damaturu, saying the election was conducted across the state’s 178 electoral wards.
Yabani said 10 political parties participated in the election, fielding candidates for the chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state.
He said following the close of polls on Saturday, votes were counted, collated and councillorship results declared at the ward level, while chairmanship results were declared at the respective local government collation centres in accordance with the law.
“Our duty here is just to announce what was declared at the collation centres so that we can now declare who are the winners,” he said.
Yabani said the process leading to the election began with the release of the election timetable on April 23, 2026, adding that following his appointment as chairman of the commission in January, he continued with consultations with critical stakeholders and implementation of the approved timetable.
He also paid tribute to his predecessor, the late Dr Muhammad Muhammad, and called for a minute’s silence in his honour.
