Borno Police Boss Directs Commanders to Strengthen Security Ahead of Elections
By Ali Mohammed Zanna, Maiduguri
The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has directed formation commanders, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the state to strengthen security measures ahead of forthcoming electoral activities.
The directive was issued on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, during a strategic conference with the Command’s management team, formation commanders, sectional heads, Area Commanders and DPOs at the Police Officers’ Mess in Maiduguri.
The meeting was convened to review the Command’s operational posture and translate the outcomes and directives of the recent Nigeria Police Force Strategic Managers’ Retreat in Imo State into practical actions across Borno.
CP Naziru urged commanders to prioritise professionalism, discipline, accountability, intelligence-led policing and effective engagement with communities.
He commended police personnel for the reported reduction in crime across the state, urging them to sustain the trend through proactive policing, timely intelligence gathering and stronger collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders.
The Commissioner also directed commanders to regularly review existing security arrangements, particularly for preventing and managing protests, public disorder, violence and other emerging security challenges.
He stressed that all police interventions must remain within the law and comply with established professional standards.
On information security, CP Naziru reminded personnel to strictly comply with the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy, warning against unauthorised disclosure of information that could compromise operations, expose personnel or members of the public to risks, or damage the reputation of the Force.
The police boss further emphasised community policing and stakeholder engagement, urging commanders to strengthen communication with traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations and other partners.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining a secure environment across Borno State.
CP Naziru charged personnel to remain vigilant, disciplined and professional while upholding the rule of law and maintaining public confidence.
