Independence Day: Adamawa govt donates cash, relief items at hospitals

The Adamawa Government has donated cash and relief items to women and children at the maternity and paediatric wards of government hospitals in Yola to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day anniversary.
The donation was made at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH) and the State University Teaching Hospital, Yola.
The items distributed included detergents, pampers, soft drinks, toiletries, sanitary pads and cash.
Speaking shortly after the presentation, Mr Leader Leneke, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, said the gesture was aimed at supporting beneficiaries, particularly families struggling to pay medical bills and cater for their children.
“This is to extend our hands of fellowship by making donations in cash and other materials necessary for them,” he said.
Leneke said the state government remained committed to providing accessible healthcare services to residents at all levels.
He said the conversion of Yola Specialist Hospital to the State University Teaching Hospital was part of the government’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
“This is to make healthcare services accessible to the people, especially those we visited today like pregnant women, mothers, children and young people.
“You know that the medical care of children from the age of zero to five years is totally free of charge; the charges are on the government,” he said.
Mrs Fadimatu Umar, a nursing mother and one of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the state government for the gesture.
Umar said the items came at the right time, noting that she and other beneficiaries were in need of the assistance.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Blessing Emmanuel, also commended the government for the donation.
Emmanuel said the items were costly in the market, adding that the assistance would help reduce the financial burden on families.
