Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja Passes Away, Aged 56
Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, has passed away at the age of 56.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced his death, which occurred on Tuesday night in Lagos after a period of illness .
Lt. General Lagbaja was born on February 28, 1968, and had a distinguished military career spanning over three decades. He enrolled in the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1987 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps on September 19, 1992 .
Some of his notable roles include:
Platoon Commander: 93 Battalion and 72 Special Forces Battalion, Internal Security Operations, Operation ZAKI_ in Benue State, Operation Lafiya Dole_ in Borno, Operation Udoka_ in Southeast Nigeria, Operation Forest Sanity_ across Kaduna and Niger States.
Lt. General Lagbaja also earned a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the prestigious U.S. Army War College, demonstrating his commitment to professional growth and excellence in military leadership.
He is survived by his wife, Mariya, and their two children. President Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, honoring Lt. General Lagbaja’s significant contributions to the nation .
