Climate Change: Nigeria Earth Warrior trains youth, women on pre-policy development

The Nigeria Earth Warrior a Non governmental Organization in collaboration with Adamawa Climate Sector working group has trained women and youth groups on pre-policy development for the domestication of Nigerian’s Climate Change Framework in Adamawa.

Speaking at the one-day conference Mr Andrew Musa, Warriors’ President said, the objective of the conference is to enable youth and women to contribute in developing pre-policy inputs for its domestication in the state inline with the national framework.

He advised the participants to remove shiness and contribute their quota to have a document that would speak to mitigate climate change in the state.

According to him, at the end of the seminar the outcome would be part of the document of climate change working group for onward submission to state assembly for the domestication of climate policy in the state.

In his remarks, Musa Ahmed, focal person climate change, Ministry of Environment Adamawa commended the organisers for timely conference ahead of domestication of the policy in the state.

He said the conference would help to have reach inputs from stakeholders to have positive contribution aimed to domesticate climate policy in the state.

“We already have a project that is ongoing and we have a draft policy in the state house of assembly, at the end we are going to marry all the three together to have an inputs that would translate to policy document”, he said.

Dr Emmanuel Bwala, a resource person called on the participants to understand that Adamawa is not an exception when it comes to climate change reality.

He said, “some countries, Nigeria and states have developed their climate change policies so Adamawa is also followed suit to develop the policy”.

According to him, the process required consultation with the relevant stakeholders, youth and women were also part of them.

“Because we want to get a climate change policy which is in line with the national framework, that is what informs these conferences as well as youth inclusion, he said.

He further explained that at the end, the policy would give government directions on what to do as a set of guidelines in mitigation of climate change issues.

Gahurry Kpananbo who spoke on behalf of the participants appreciated for the opportunity given to them to contribute.

According to her, they understand how to advocate for climate change policy aimed at eradicating climate change issues in society.

“This conference gives us the opportunity to understand how we can make the environment a better place for everyone to live”, she said.
