Progressive indigenes of Yobe have urged Alhaji Baba Malam Wali to contest the 2027 governorship election, citing his administrative experience and commitment to youth development.

The group, in a statement issued on Tuesday in Damaturu, described Wali as a seasoned administrator with decades of public service, marked by competence, continuity and deep institutional knowledge.

It stated that Wali began his career in Borno as a Principal Research Officer in 1989 and later served as Personal Secretary to the Military Governor in 1990.

According to the group, Wali built a distinguished career in Yobe, serving under the North-East Zone Agricultural Programme (NEZAP) as Term Coordinator, Deputy Programme Manager and Programme Manager.

It added that he also served as Permanent Secretary in key ministries, including Youth, Sports and Development; Transport and Energy; Environment; and Administration and General Services.

The group noted that Wali served as Acting Secretary to the State Government from July 13 to July 16, 2015, and was later appointed substantive SSG on May 29, 2019, under former Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam.

It added that Gov. Mai Mala Buni reappointed him on July 17, 2019, where he served until his recent resignation, reflecting confidence in his leadership across administrations.

The statement further noted that beyond public service, Wali personally encouraged and supported youth educational ambitions, mentoring young people and promoting academic and professional growth.

“His track record reflects stability, discipline and a strong commitment to human capital development, which are critical to Yobe’s progress,” the group said.

It urged political actors, community leaders and youths to support Wali’s candidacy, describing him as a unifying figure capable of advancing development and strengthening governance.

The group also pledged to mobilise support across the state to ensure his emergence in the 2027 governorship election.
