NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel to unveil medical outreach, training for journalists others

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, has disclosed plans for a medical outreach, training for 100 practicing journalists and a novelty match under stewardship of Ibrahim Muhammad Kado.

Comrade Umar Dankano, Chairman Organizing Committee disclosed this to newsmen at the press conference on Monday in Yola.

He said the activity is to celebrate the 2026 Correspondents’ Day, highlighting one year of purposeful leadership of Kado of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“The event is scheduled to be held from April 15 to 16, to commemorate and reflect on the impactful achievements of the Correspondents’ Chapel, under the leadership of Comrade Ibrahim Mohammad Kado, who has just marked one year in office.

‎”Correspondents’ Day provides a unique opportunity for us, as media professionals, to pause and weight our collective contributions toward shaping the society.

“It is a moment of reflection on how we have advanced public discourse, promoted accountability, and contributed to the social and mental well-being of the communities we serve.

“As journalists, we continuously commit our physical and psychological energy to the noble task of informing, educating, and enlightening the public for societal development”, he said.

According to him, the Correspondents’ Chapel plays a critical role in agenda-setting for both those in positions of authority and the general public.

He added that this responsibility is reinforced by Section 22 of the Nigerian Constitution, which mandates the media to uphold accountability and good governance.

‎Dankano explained that the training workshop for 100 practicing journalists, focused on reshaping the narrative of election reportage ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎”The medical outreach programme open to both members and the general public, offering free health screenings including hypertension, Hepatitis, HIV, and other essential tests.

‎”while novelty football match between the executive and legislative arms of government, symbolizing and strengthening the cordial working relationship that has enhanced our operations as journalists.

‎”An award and recognition segment to honour outstanding colleagues for excellence in reportage, discipline, and professional conduct”, he said.

‎He further said, the committee has worked tirelessly to ensure the successful planning and execution of the 2026 Correspondents’ Day.

He appreciated the support and cooperation by members of the chapel and stakeholders.
