Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe have endorsed Baba Malam Wali as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The endorsement was contained in a communique issued at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting held in Damaturu on Sunday.
The communique was read by the President of the 9th Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan.
Lawan said the stakeholders aligned with the selection of Baba Malam Wali, also known as BMW, as the party’s preferred governorship aspirant.
According to him, Sen. Ahmed Lawan, Sen. Ibrahim Bomoi and Sen. Musa Mustapha, representing Yobe North, South and East Senatorial Districts respectively, renounced their governorship aspirations in support of Wali.
He said other aspirants who withdrew from the race included former Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, and former Federal Capital Territory Mandate Secretary, Lawan Kolo Geidam.
Lawan said the stakeholders pledged support for the APC and all its candidates in the 2027 general election.
He added that the former aspirants had also agreed to collapse their political structures to strengthen the party ahead of the polls.
Earlier, Gov. Mai Mala Buni said Wali’s candidature would guarantee continuity in the policies, programmes and projects of his administration.
Buni commended the aspirants who stepped down from the race for their sacrifice in the interest of peace, unity and stability in the party and the state.
The governor assured that consultations and engagements would continue with the remaining aspirants, including Bashir Sheriff Machina, Engr. Mustapha Maihaja and Bar. Kashim Musa Tumsa.
He said the move was aimed at ensuring that the party approached the forthcoming elections with a united front.
