Yobe Govt, Russian firm discuss power supply for agro-industrial zone

The Yobe Government and a Russian investment company, Legion Investment Moscow, have commenced discussions on the establishment of gas-powered electricity generation plants for the state’s Agro-Industrial Zone.

The discussions began when a delegation of the company paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Mai Mala Buni on Monday ahead of technical engagements and inspection of proposed project sites.

The delegation, led by Mr Leonid Khasiev, included the company’s Technical Consultant, Mr Rasim Azimov.

Khasiev said the delegation was in Yobe on an investment and technical assessment mission.

He said the team would inspect the proposed project sites, assess technical and investment requirements and engage relevant authorities on the proposed energy solution for the Agro-Industrial Zone.

According to him, the proposed gas-powered plant is expected to provide stable and reliable electricity for agro-processing, manufacturing, storage, cold-chain facilities and other businesses within the zone.

The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to transform agriculture from predominantly primary production to an integrated system covering production, aggregation, processing, storage, logistics and market access.

Buni said the proposed partnership would strengthen the state’s efforts to attract international investors and strategic technical partners to support its development priorities.

The governor appreciated Legion Investment Moscow for its interest in investing in the state, expressing hope that the discussions would contribute to the realisation of the Agro-Industrial Zone.

He said the project had the potential to create jobs, promote value addition, stimulate industrial development and increase investment in the agricultural sector.

“Yobe State remains committed to building strategic partnerships that will unlock the economic potential of its agricultural resources and position the state as an attractive destination for agro-industrial investment,” Buni said.

Our Correspondent reports that the proposed energy project is expected to support the power requirements of businesses and facilities to be established within the Agro-Industrial Zone.
