279 Community Livestock Workers empowered for dairy production in Adamawa

No fewer than 279 community Livestock workers has been empowered for advancing local dairy production in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area, Adamawa through Sebore Farm with support from the Gates Foundation.
Mr Temi Adegoroye, Managing Partner, Sahel consulting disclosed this at the Advancing Local Dairy Development in Nigeria (ALDDN) close-out ceremony of the six year programme in Yola.
He said the programme, began in 2020, was implemented in Adamawa, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Plateau and Taraba states.
He said within the period 178 cooperatives were formalised.
According to him, the programme had improved the livelihoods, productivity, nutrition, and empowerment of small holder women dairy farmers and the communities in which they live.
Adegoroye said, the objective of the ceremony is to appreciate stakeholders, partners, and team members for their contributions and to strengthen collaboration among participating organizations and stakeholders.
“And to highlight sustainability and post-program continuity plans”, he added.
He further called on the state government to take advantage of the opportunity to partner with the farmers aim to sustain some of the programme for the development of the state.
Nyalas Bartholomew, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Livestock and acureculture called on investors and other stakeholders to partner with the state for livestock development in the state.
He said the ministry has a working document that was subjected through the Adamawa State Investment Company.
According to him, the document has been part of producing the national livestock document.
Adamawa has been the first state among the 36 states and Abuja to produce a state policy on livestock document.
“By these Adamawa have opened up her corridors to welcome partners like Sahel consulting, Sebore International farm limited working with Admiral Yogurt and many others.
“This is the way to go, to grow the economy through livelihood particularly livestock”, said.
kabir Abdulmumini, Head of Operations, Sebore Farms appealed to the Sahel consulting on the need for extension of their programme.
He said their vision and mission is to encourage more people to key into diary production in the state and country at large would help improve economic development of the local farmers in the country.
Ya’u Adamu, who spoke in behalf of the beneficiaries expressed his gratitude for the programme that brings changes in their life.
According to him, as the result of the programme they generate money through dairy production for yogurt, their children are in school, no more going far feeding animals among many other benefits.
