The Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA) has trained about 200 healthcare workers from 100 health facilities across the state on the use of its Electronic Health Record (EHR) Referral System.
The five-day training, organised by the agency’s Standards and Quality Assurance (SQA) Department, was held from September 21 to 25, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen digital health management and improve referral services.
Twenty healthcare facilities participated each day, with two representatives drawn from each facility, bringing the total number of participants to 200.
Speaking at the opening of the training, the Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA, Dr Saleh Abba Kaza, said the transition from paper-based processes to digital systems was necessary to improve efficiency and coordination within the state’s healthcare system.
Kaza urged the participants to take the training seriously and ensure that the knowledge gained was effectively applied in their respective facilities.
He said the EHR system would enhance healthcare coordination, referral processes, reporting and overall service delivery.
The executive secretary also reminded healthcare providers of the need to protect patients’ personal and medical information, stressing that confidentiality must be maintained when handling electronic health records.
He further encouraged health workers to remain committed to improving productivity and the quality of services delivered to patients.
The training, chaired by the Director of Administration and Supply, Alhaji Umara Yerwa, also featured presentations on key aspects of healthcare management and digital reporting.
The Director of Standards and Quality Assurance, Dr Inna Alimi, presented an overview of the new BHCPF 2.0 and its implementation at the facility level.
The agency’s Head of ICT, Mustapha Mohammed, demonstrated the EHR Referral System and explained how healthcare facilities could use the platform to initiate and manage referrals.
Participants also took part in practical sessions on initiating referrals through the electronic platform.
Similarly, BOSCHMA Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Modu Bosoma, addressed participants on monthly reporting, stressing the need for timely, accurate and complete submission of facility reports.
According to him, quality data is essential for effective monitoring, planning and evidence-based decision-making in the health sector.
The training is expected to strengthen the capacity of healthcare workers to use digital tools, improve referral coordination and reporting, and support BOSCHMA’s efforts to enhance the quality and accountability of healthcare services across Borno State.
