PLAN International, ACAN plant 620 seedlings in Adamawa communities
PLAN International Nigeria in collaboration with Adamawa Climate Action Network (ACAN) has planted 620 seedlings in communities vulnerable to flood in Yola-North and Numan Local Government Areas (LGAs).
Nubwa Bawuro, Social and Behavioral Change Communications Officer for Plan, stated this on Friday at a sensitisation and distribution of seedlings in Boronji community in Yola-North LGA.
Bawuro explained that the project is being funded by the Zurich Climate Resilient Alliance project to build the capacity of community people so that they can be able to withstand the impacts of climate change.
She said apart from the 620 seedlings, they would provide 600 protectors in two LGAs.
Bawuro urged community members to understand the importance of tree planting and build their resistance to protect their environment.
“One of the things we are doing is to ensure that whatever we are doing, there is sustainability.”
Mr Aaron Isaac, Secretary ACAN, described the partnership as strong synergy in the fight against climate change in Adamawa communities.
He appreciated the Plan International and Zurich Climate Resilient Alliance project for the support to build the capacity of community members in the state.
He called on the communities to nature the trees to maturity for maximum benefit to humanity and the environment.
Alhaji Inuwa Liman, the community leader, expressed appreciation for the sensitisation and the donation of the seedlings.
According to him, the sensitisation has exposed them to understand the importance of planting trees, especially economic trees.
Liman gave assurance of protecting the trees against animals and groom them to maturity.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the state government to provide them with portable water considering their closeness to Government House, Yola.
