In its effort to enhance better healthcare outcomes in Yobe, Lafiya UK has supported Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in reviewing the 2025 health budget and developing advocacy plans for reforms.

Malam Bala Suleiman, Co-chair of the Yobe State Voice and Accountability Mechanism (YoVAM), disclosed this at the end of a two-day strategic meeting on Sunday in Damaturu.

Suleiman, who is also the Director of Nursing Services in the Yobe State Ministry of Health and Human Services, said: “As Yobe State has allocated 15 per cent of its 2025 budget to the health sector, with the support of Lafiya UK, we are now planning to track the successful release, implementation, and the judicious use of that 15 per cent in accordance with the Federal Government Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) initiative.”

He commended Gov. Mai Mala Buni, the Commissioner for Health, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Health for their relentless efforts to ensure the approval of the 15 per cent allocation to health in the state’s 2025 budget.

Mr. Baba Kuchichi, Co-chair of the Civil Society Organizations, Yobe, explained that they were there to analyze the 15 per cent healthcare allocation in the state’s 2026 budget.

“To identify where the gaps are in order to advocate for the stakeholders to address such gaps that could be related to funding, service delivery, implementation, and so on,” Kuchichi said.

He added that they were open to collaboration and partnership with all willing partners within and outside the state to improve healthcare outcomes in the state.

Al-Sheik Mustapha Damaturu, Secretary of the Knowledge Management Committee, YoVAM, described the budget increase by the state government as a success story for YoVAM, which advocated for it and supported it.

He urged the state government to ensure the implementation of the 15 per cent, especially the releases, to carry out the outlined activities in the sector.
